Audience

Programmers and DBAs requiring training in managing and accessing DB2 databases, particularly the use of SQL.

Prerequisites

Basic understanding of DB2 UDB, relational databases, and system design.

Objectives

After completing this course, the student should be able to:

  • Inquire on DB2 data using SQL Data Manipulation Language (DML)
  • Insert, update, and delete DB2 data using SQL Data Manipulation Language (DML)

Course Content

SQL – SELECTING DATA

  • Use the SELECT statement to select data
  • Code predicates (WHERE clauses) to restrict the data selected
  • Code simple column arithmetic
  • Code for and understand the effects of null values

SQL – SCALER AND COLUMN FUNCTIONS, AND ORDER

  • Code scalar functions on columns
  • Code aggregate or column functions and groupings
  • Code the ORDER BY clause

SQL – THE INSERT, DELETE, AND UPDATE STATEMENTS

  • Use the INSERT statement to insert rows to tables
  • Use the DELETE statement to delete rows from tables
  • Use the UPDATE statement to modify the values of columns in rows

JOINING DB2 TABLES TOGETHER

  • Join tables in SQL

SQL – DISTINCT, CASE, UNION, AND VIEWS

  • Use the DISTINCT SQL keyword
  • Use the SQL CASE expression
  • Create UNIONs to combine data from multiple selects
  • Create and use VIEWs to protect or aggregate underlying table data

Subselects and Correlated Subselects

  • Code Correlated and Non-Correlated Subselects
